Primary immunodeficiency
The primary immunodeficiency disorders occur when components of the immune system are deficient or not working properly. Allergists/immunologists specialize in identifying and treating these diseases. All of these disorders are marked by frequent infections that are often more severe than in a person with a normal immune system. Appropriate treatment can reduce the number and severity of infections and prevent associated complications.
